I'm not about to get into the sound quality issues here.

Taking a little different slant on the comments from our friend "Napa Don" I would like to add that what I like best about CDs is that we've had a return to liner notes and personnel listings within those little jewel cases. During those years when audio cassette were prevelant, the best you'd usually come up with was a fold out "cover" with all the lyrics but no technical information about the artist(s).

CDs most closely parallel LPs is terms of being able to press a button to select the number you want to hear (comparable to placing the needle on the "band" or "Cut" on the vinyl disc.)

Eight tracks, while sound quality was never an issue, were a lost cause in terms of pinpointing one selection you wanted to hear. Cassettes, wtih the necessity of fast forwarding and rewinding weren't much of an improvement.

I also like telling people that I've got a lot of my money tied up in CDs. I'm not lying to anyone; if they want to think Certificates of Deposit, so be it.

So, let's leave the CD alone. As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it"
