Just when I thought that we put this one to bed, Harry comes along with more comments.
He has some good points. I had touted the fine liner notes (and their user-friendliness) on LPs as opposed to those on CDs. Yes Harry, Cassettes were even worse.
Of course, getting to a track of choice is far superior on a CD. 8-Track tapes were the worst of all.
One time on a gig, I was announcing about our CDs. One wise-guy in the audience called "Are they the ones you get in a bank>"
Herb Gardner quipped "Our CDs get no interest."

During those years when audio cassette were prevelant, the best you'd usually come up with was a fold out "cover" with all the lyrics but no technical information about the artist(s).

> CDs most closely parallel LPs is terms of being able to press a button to select the number you want to hear (comparable to placing the needle on the "band" or "Cut" on the vinyl disc.)

> Eight tracks, while sound quality was never an issue, were a lost cause in terms of pinpointing one selection you wanted to hear. Cassettes, wtih the necessity of fast forwarding and rewinding weren't much of an improvement.

> So, let's leave the CD alone. As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it"
